Chester Water Supply Corp Issues Boil Water Notice, Bottled Water Distribution Announced

ree

CHESTER, Texas — The Chester Water Supply Corp has issued a Boil Water Notice for customers on the Barnum Plant due to a recent water outage that may have allowed contamination into the distribution system.

The notice, issued September 18, advises customers to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, ice making, or other human consumption. Water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil for at least two minutes before use. Children, seniors, and individuals with weakened immune systems are especially urged to follow the precaution.

Chester Water Supply officials report that the well pump at the Barnum Plant has been replaced, but unforeseen issues remain. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is requiring the utility to maintain the notice until testing confirms the system is safe.

Meanwhile, the Tyler County Emergency Management Office has asked residents in the Barnum area to conserve water and limit usage to essential purposes. Non-essential activities such as lawn watering or vehicle washing should be postponed until the system stabilizes.

To support affected customers, free bottled water distribution will be available at the Tyler County Emergency Management Office, located at 201 Veterans Way in Woodville. Water will be offered Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Sept. 19–21) from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Residents should bring a photo ID; pickup will take place inside the gated area where staff will assist.

Once the system has been cleared, Chester Water Supply Corp will issue a rescind notice both publicly and directly to customers.

For questions, customers may contact George Ibson at 936-969-2360 or reach the main office at 141 Cade Street in Chester during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–12 p.m.).
