Local Tyler County Firefighters to Host 9/11 Tribute Stair Climb at Anytime Fitness

ree

WOODVILLE, Texas – Volunteer firefighters from Tyler County are organizing a public tribute on Thursday, Sept. 11, to honor the memory of the first responders who gave their lives during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Beginning at 8 a.m. at Anytime Fitness in Woodville, participants will climb a stair machine in full bunker gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), symbolizing the climb up the many flights of stairs at the World Trade Center that New York City firefighters faced that day.

Due to only one stair machine being available, each firefighter will take turns, with climbs lasting 30 minutes or more. To keep the event moving and inclusive, additional physical challenges such as dumbbell and kettlebell farmer’s carries and burpees will also take place.

So far, those confirmed to participate include:

  • Bradley McLendon, Woodville Volunteer Fire Department

  • Jacob Booth, Woodville Volunteer Fire Department

  • Clay Busey, Woodville Volunteer Fire Department

  • Zane Koi, Woodville Volunteer Fire Department

  • Sal Baldovinos, Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department

Organizers encourage the public to attend, support, and even join in on the tribute.

“This is about remembering the sacrifices made on 9/11 and showing solidarity as a community,” Sal Baldovinos said in their announcement.
