JASPER COUNTY, Texas – A Sunday afternoon crash on U.S. Highway 190 at the Dam B Bridge sent several people to the hospital and shut down traffic for an extended period, according to Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jamie Gunter.
At 4:52 p.m., Beech Grove VFD was dispatched to the scene of a three-vehicle accident involving seven total occupants.
Firefighters and medics from Allegiance Mobile Health – Jasper EMS assessed everyone involved. Four people — one adult and three children — were transported to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety – Southeast Texas Region and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicles were removed by Jasper Xxon Towing and Recovery and Hatch’s Towing, LLC.
Traffic control was assisted by Dam B Volunteer Fire Department on the Tyler County side.
Chief Gunter noted this accident happened at the same location as two prior crashes, including one that recently claimed the life of a young man. He also stressed the additional challenge of working in today’s conditions, with bright sunlight and a heat index of 108 degrees, reminding responders and the public that staying hydrated is critical.
Beech Grove VFD responded with E11, B12, and 12 firefighters.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. DPS continues to investigate, and East Texas Banner will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
