Obituary of Barbara James Smith

December 26, 1948 - August 31, 2025

Barbara James Smith, 76, of Woodville, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025 in Woodville, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville. Visitation will continue at 11:30 a.m. at Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred with graveside service beginning at 12 noon. Officiating will be Brother Jay Abernathy. Serving as pallbearers will be Ralph Loggins, Larry Easley, Guy Rasberry, Don Martinez, Ken Josey, and Matt Jordan.

Barbara was born December 26, 1948 to James David “J.D.” and Evelyn Lawana Rasberry James in Woodville, Texas. She was a graduate of the old Kirby High School in Woodville. She retired from Spurger I.S.D. tax office and later moved back to Woodville. Barbara enjoyed hunting and fishing, but her real love was for her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Evelyn James; husband of 40 years, Jack Wayne Smith; daughter, Kristen Smith; and sister, Elaine Tubb.

She is survived by her brother, Derold James of Woodville; and numerous nieces & nephews and other family members.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
