Douglas Mart “Shot” Bell, 88, of Colmesneil, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025 in Woodville, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with graveside military honors to follow in Campground Cemetery Woodville. Officiating will be Brother Glen “Tuffy” Loftin and Brother Stephen McBride. Serving as pallbearers will be John Foraker, Jeff Foraker, Jason Foraker, Derek McBride, Gregory McBride, Eddie McBride, Eric McBride, Cayson McBride, and Cutter McBride. Honorary pallbearers will be Dusty Dennis, Bill Hall, Johnny Tucker, Nick Toparcean, Jeffrey Foraker, Jr., Carsyn Foraker, William Foraker, Colin Foraker, Ayden Foraker, Tyler Goodwin, and John Vincent.
Doug was born September 30, 1937 to Mart and Myrtle Lee Crager Bell in New Willard, Texas. A longtime resident of Tyler County, Doug was a retired Correctional Officer from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, and hunting. He was a faithful member of Campground Baptist Church and was a volunteer with the Texas Baptist Disaster Relief organization. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mart and Myrtle Lee Bell.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Stella Bell of Colmesneil; daughters, Cynthia Lynn Bell of Colmesneil, and Tammy Lanette McBride and husband Stephen of Woodville; son, Dr. Robert Leland Bell and wife Rhonda Lu of Kingwood; sister, Wanda Lee Galloway of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
