Obituary of Vernon "Rusty" Dominy

September 26, 1954 - July 7, 2025

A Celebration of Vernon “Rusty” Dominy’s Life, age 70, of Zavalla, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2025 at the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Zavalla, Texas. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas.

Rusty passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025 at his home in Zavalla, Texas surrounded by his loving family.

A former resident of Jasper, Texas for 26 years, Rusty had been a resident of Zavalla for the past 20 years. He enjoyed reading comic books, mowing, hunting and fishing. He loved singing and spending time with his family. In June 2020, Rusty retired from TEC of Jasper with over 24 years of service.

Rusty is survived by wife, Terri Hopson Dominy of Zavalla, Texas; children, Chad Dominy, Michelle Dominy of Jasper, Texas; step-son, Kevin Havard of Corrigan, Texas; sister, Diedra Cross and husband David of Lufkin, Texas; sister-in-law, Yvette Hopson of Zavalla, Texas; brother-in-law, Jimmy Hopson of Wylie, Texas; grandchildren, Kylee and Rafael Mijares, Faith and Victor Rodriguez, Destinee Dominy and Ashlynne Dominy; and great grandchildren, Angel Rodriguez, Enzo Mijares and Ziylon Mahathay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mary Edith Dominy; brother, Danny Joe Dominy and son, Scotty Dominy.
