Virginia Sheffield Blakeney, 80, went to be with her Lord on August 30, 2025.
Virginia was born in Woodville on May 10, 1945, to parents Willie Maude Neal Sheffield and Veston “Hoss” Sheffield. She was raised in the Harmony Community, west of Woodville, and was baptized in the lake of her grandfather, William L. Sheffield. She retired from the Texas Department of Human Servies with 32 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Colmesneil. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her much loved grandchildren. She especially loved helping take care of them as babies and later attending many of their activities. She was very proud to hear them call her GRAN. Just being around them gave her pure joy.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Veston “Hoss” and Willie Maude Sheffield; sisters, Billie Crews, and Merle Evans; brother, Neal “Buddy” Sheffield; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Sheffield, Wanda Jean Ferrell, Teletha Russell, and LaDelle Blakeney; brothers-in-law, Jesse Crews, Charles Evans, A.L. Ferrell, Johnny Wilson, and Roger Russell; nephews, Ray Crews, Seth Sheffield, Dale Russell and Ricky Killebrew.
Survivors include husband, Jack Blakeney of Woodville (celebrated 56 years of marriage on August 2nd) sister, Linda Arceneaux and her husband Joe of Lumberton; son, Clayton Blakeney of Dallas; daughter, Holly Holland and husband Stuart of Austin; grandchildren Sumner Holland, Duncan Holland and Kate Holland of Austin. sister-in-law, Joyce Wilson of Woodville; brothers-in-law, S. Troy Blakeney and wife Diana of Bridge City, and E. Troy Blakeney and wife Marla of Durango, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd, 11 am at Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville, TX. Officiating will be Pastor Tony Hoult.
Serving as pallbearers are Clayton Blakeney, Stuart Holland, Sumner Holland, Duncan Holland, Andy Crews, John Wilson, Mike Blakeney, Jay Crews, Lyle Rayburn and Mark Philmon.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
