Official report from Tyler County Sheriff’s Office:
On August 20, 2025, at approximately 5:00 pm, Tyler County Deputies responded to the Colmesneil High School in reference to a possible threat made by a student. On scene, Deputies met with Superintendent Sharon Tule who advised Deputies a CISD student, who was currently not on campus, made a threat. It was reported by CISD staff that the student, Aaron McDonald, age 17 of Colmesneil, threatened to shoot up the school.
The threat made by McDonald was also heard by several other students in the classroom. Deputies began their investigation with locating and securing McDonald at his
residence, as additional Deputies began collecting witness statements from students and school staff. It was learned that McDonald was upset about a new seating assignment for his class. McDonald was heard making several threats including, "killing everyone in this school".
Justice of the Peace Mike Hughes issued an arrest warrant for McDonald and he was taken into custody. McDonald was transported to the Tyler County Jail charged with Felony Terroristic Threat. Judge Hughes set McDonald's bond at $50,000.00 and issued several bond conditions to include being prohibited from CISD Property.
Through this cooperative effort between concerned students, school officials and law enforcement, we were able to assess the threat and take the necessary action to ensure the continued safety of the students and staff.
