Jasper police have released new information following a fatal shooting that occurred just before midnight on Tuesday, May 27, claiming the life of 19-year-old Keniyah Brenae Williams of Woodville.
Officers responded to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital late Tuesday night after hospital staff reported that a young woman had arrived with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite emergency life-saving efforts, Williams was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
According to Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster, the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting took place inside a vehicle near the intersection of West Gibson and Main Street. The suspect, a 23-year-old Black male from Woodville, reportedly drove Williams to the hospital after the incident. Investigators say the two were involved in a dating relationship.
The firearm believed to have been used has been recovered. The suspect was taken into custody at the hospital without incident and is currently cooperating with authorities.
He remains held at the Jasper County Jail on a charge of manslaughter. His name is being withheld pending formal charges and arraignment. A formal autopsy is pending to help confirm the findings of the ongoing investigation.
This is a developing story. We will provide updates as new information becomes available.
